50 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS

AN ARTISANAL COMPANY WITH INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS

Claude Couthouis bought the company’s original duck slaughterhouse in 1974. Convinced from the outset of the need to offer exceptional products, he opted to use top-quality dry plucking technology.
Very quickly, Claude Couthouis made a name for himself as a traditional supplier, with special savoir-faire and outstanding quality products. Success followed and the business grew. In 2001, Claude Couthouis took over Péridy, followed by Edgar Caiveau in 2010. Following the company’s acquisition by LDC in 2018, the brand name became Maison Couthouis, thus emphasising its high standards of quality and history of traditional skills.

THE MARAIS BRETON VENDÉEN, A FAMOUS DUCK-REARING REGION

Maison Couthouis is based in Soullans, between Challans and the Vendée coast. This marshland area has a long duck-rearing history and we naturally work with local duck farmers whenever we can. In fact, 70% of our partner farms are less than two hours away from our production unit.
Our French, European and Asian clients particularly appreciate this strong regional approach.

PRODUCTS FOR A DEMANDING CLIENTELE

Listening closely to restaurant owners and their specific needs, Maison Couthouis has developed a range including Barbary ducks and two other specialities: the wild duck and the Challandais « au sang » duck.

To meet the demand from professionals for top quality lean duck meat, Maison Couthouis sells a range of products for restaurants, butchers, delicatessens and caterers, and supermarket retail. All of these customers appreciate the broad choice of fresh and frozen products and the bespoke services offered by the company’s 100-person staff.
